Kristen Day Forsaken

Daughters of the Sea Series by Kristen Day

Young Adult Fantasy

Forsaken

Book 1

Once you’ve been touched by darkness, it never leaves you…

Abandoned by her parents as an infant; seventeen year old Hannah spent her childhood wading through countless foster families until being adopted by the Whitmans three years ago.

Unfortunately, Atlanta’s high society wasn’t quite ready for Hannah…or the strange events that plague her.
Chilling visions of murder, unexplained hallucinations, and a dark, mysterious guy who haunts her nightmares all culminate to set in motion a journey of self-discovery that will challenge everything she’s ever believed; not to mention her sanity.

Sent to live at The House of Lorelei on Bald Head Island, NC for ‘kids like her’, Hannah quickly realizes things are not what they seem. Her fellow ‘disturbed’ teens are actually the descendents of mythical Sea Gods and Goddesses. And so is she.

But when Finn, the ghost from her dreams, appears in the flesh; her nightmares become reality and her dark visions begin coming true. Inexplicably drawn to him, she can’t deny the dangerous hold he has on her heart. The deadly secrets he harbors will ultimately test her courage and push the boundaries of her love.

She must decide if she is ready to embrace the ancient legend she is prophesied to be a part of. The fate of all the descendents will forever depend upon it.

About Kristen Day

I am a southern belle at heart with a crazy streak that desperately tries to escape at every opportunity. I love all things nostalgic, rustic, and quirky. I've been told I see the world through rose-colored glasses, but I prefer to think of them as kaleidoscope glasses - swirling and morphing reality into something I can digest (who hasn't pretended those pasty lima beans were really kiwi strawberry jelly beans?).

When I'm not writing I'm making jewelry, painting, drinking sweet tea, watching the discovery channel, or going on random adventures in the mountains of North Carolina with my amazing husband.

Review

Grey's Domain is the much awaited sequel to Eva Pohler's YA thriller, The Purgatorium. In the Purgatorium, 17 year old Daphne is allowed to go to on an island vacation with her neighbor. Daphne quickly learns that the island is a last resort therapy program run by Dr. Hortense Grey. What is real and what is part of the doctor's treatment? The patients take part in scenarios that will leave you questioning where you draw the line in psychological experiments. In Grey's Domain, Daphne has the opportunity to turn the tables on her parents. Now they are receiving treatment and she is one of Dr. Grey's playactors. Part thriller, part horror, and completely engrossing, this series will give rise to debates. Is Dr. Grey a genius, or a sadist? Does the end sometimes justify the means?

Don't miss this series. Although Grey's Domain can be read alone, I would recommend reading the Purgatorium first.'

Carved in Cherry Cover Reveal

Coming June First!
One thing set Lydia Shaw and her store apart from the other antique shops in town…
Lydia’s collection was plagued by curses, and it was her duty to break them.
Rachel, Angie, and Jo knew nothing about their aunt’s secret life. In fact, they didn’t even know she owned an antique shop, until they inherited it. Unfortunately for them, Lydia passed down more than just her store. The sisters are the proud new owners of countless deadly curses, buried under centuries of dust.
Lydia also left behind her apprentice, Peter. He does everything he can to protect the girls, as they explore their new store, unaware of the dangers it hides. In spite of his efforts, Rachel finds herself obsessed with opening a strange trunk, Angie has vivid dreams, haunted by a man who claims he needs her help, and Jo’s imagination starts to run wild.
When one of them falls victim to a curse, it’s up to Peter and her sisters to save her. But, if Peter can’t teach them to wield a magic, that he barely understands himself, she’ll be the first one to die...
Here's an exclusive sneak peek for you!
   “Who are you?” she called.
The man frowned at her. “You can … you can see me?”
The question caught her off guard. Angie wasn’t sure what she had been expecting him to ask, but that wasn’t it. “Y-yes. Who are you?”
He cleared his throat. “Ethan. My name is Ethan.” He moved toward her, and the light from the cell phone made him easier to see and less threatening. “What’s your name?”
   “Angie.”
Angie studied him. He was cute. He had dirty blond hair, which was styled and gelled up unusually high. Khaki pants and a knit, button up sweater, made up his really preppy, bordering on outdated, outfit.
Ethan smiled at her. He looked happy. No, more than happy, he looked overjoyed. “Angie,” he breathed. “You’re beautiful.”
Well, that was straight-forward and awkward. Angie smiled weakly. “Uh … thanks.”
It seemed like he realized his comment had made her uncomfortable. “I’m sorry. It’s just that you’re the first person I’ve seen … the first person I’ve spoken to in a long time.”
   “How long?”
Ethan shook his head. “I don’t know.”
She realized, with a start, that she recognized him. “Oh my God, I saw you! I saw your reflection today!”
   “You did?”
The thought made Angie’s heart pound. She had been awake then. How had she seen him while awake? She took another look at his clothes. Did anybody dress like that anymore? God, what if he’s a freaking ghost? He looked real, solid. Alive. Weren’t ghosts supposed to be transparent or something? “I don’t understand. How can I see you when … if nobody else can?”
Ethan furrowed his brows at her. “What is your trisk-rune?”
   “What?”
   “Your trisk-rune. What is it?”
Angie shook her head. “I don’t know what you mean.”
He seemed confused by her answer. “You don’t know what your trisk-rune is?” He looked around. “But then … what are you doing here?”
“Here? In the shop?” Angie shrugged. “My sisters and I—”
Ethan stumbled back a step. “What? Your sisters?”
   “Yes.”
“You’re one of them? Is that why you can see me?”
“What?” Angie took a step closer. “I don’t know what you mean.”
“You did this to me!” he yelled. “You and your sisters!”
“No!” Angie shook her head, baffled. “I don’t know what you’re talking about!” As she spoke, she moved closer to him and reached out, even though he was halfway across the room.
“Stay away from me!” He waved his hands through the air and then, to Angie’s utter shock, a ball of white fire was flying toward her.
As she raised her hands to protect herself, she screamed.

Love Comes Calling

About

A girl with the best of intentions.
A heart set on Hollywood.
An empty pocketbook.
That's all it takes for Ellis Eton to find herself working as a telephone operator for a look-alike friend. For Ellis, this job will provide not only acting practice but the funds to get her a start in the movies. She's tired of always being a disappointment to her traditional Boston family, and though she can't deny the way he makes her head spin, she knows she's not good enough for Griffin Phillips, either. It's simple: avoid Griff's attentions, work, and get paid. But in typical Ellis fashion, her simple plan spirals out of control when she overhears a menacing phone call...with her very own Griff as the target.

With an endearing heroine as her lead, Siri Mitchell takes readers on a madcap tale of love and discovering one's true desires!

Review:

Born into one of Boston's First Families, Ellis Eton has high expectations placed upon her shoulders. Ellis has difficulty meeting those expectations and she considers herself a 'dumb Dora'. It seems no matter her intentions every attempt to succeed ends with the refrain 'Oh, Ellis!' She dreams of running away to Hollywood and becoming an actress. Ellis believes that the only time she can do well is when she is pretending to be someone else.
She is asked to take the place of her friend Janie as a telephone operator, while Janie attends her mother's funeral. Janie and Ellis look so much like twins family members can be fooled. Ellis can't let her parents know she is posing as a working girl. So she pretends to be Janie.
On her first day as a telephone operator, Ellis accidently overhears a conversation in which two men discuss harming her next door neighbor and friend Griffin.
Using her knowledge of movies plots, Ellis decides to become a sleuth and solve the mystery of who is threatening Griff. The madcap investigation has begun. Reminiscent of old Hollywood movies, Ellis moves between the worlds of prohibition era speakeasys, Boston's Beacon Hill and the 1920's workplace in order to solve the mystery and save her beau.
Ellis is a very different type if heroine. Insecure, with undiagnosed attention deficit she finds herself failing as a student at Radcliffe. I believe her lack of self esteem will resonate with readers. She wants to please her parents who expect her to fill a traditional role, but can't make herself fit the mold. She doesn't believe she will be loved if she is herself.
The storyline is both humorous as we follow Ellis's adventures, and serious as she and her friends deal with issues of drinking, out of wedlock pregnancy and the graft and corruption of public officials during prohibition. Griffin is a football star with a future in politics. Although he easily fits into his role in society, he is the only one who loves Ellis just as she is.
Love Comes Calling by Siri Mitchell is an accurate look at life in the 'Roaring 20's'. At the same time, the book includes issues that readers can relate to in today's society. Ellis is a sweet girl and you will want her to find her happily ever after.

Charred Heart by Lizzy Ford

BLURB:
A modern day retelling of “Beauty and the Beast”
***Recommended for ages 18+ due to multiple, creative, detailed, steamy, sexy-time adult situations.***
For a thousand years, Chace has searched for a way to break the curse placed on him by a moody jilted lover. He’s a dragon shifter, one who can’t control when the magic will force him into a different form. He’s already lost everyone he ever cared about a few times over and doesn’t know how much longer he’s meant to suffer.
At his wit’s end, he makes a deal with a mysterious figure that offers him what he wants most – an end to his misery – in exchange for everything that’s his: His life, his power. His heart.
The next day, he meets Skylar, a modern day dragon slayer whose mission is to cage him – or kill him. Sexy, witty and brave, she is the yin to his yang, the woman destined to break the curse, balance his magic and make his broken heart whole.
Except it’s too late. Not only has he sealed his fate, but an innocent one-night-stand with Skylar has dragged her into the middle of a deal with the devil, one she won’t escape, if he can’t convince her that dragon shifters aren’t her enemies.

REVIEW:
Why do readers love Lizzy Ford books? I can only speak for myself, and for the fans I have met on her Facebook fan page. Lizzy Ford writes a variety of genres: Science Fiction, Paranormal, and Contemporary. She writes YA, NA and Adult romance. The common denominator in all her books is that romance comes from unexpected places. Her characters don't have perfect lives, which make them all the more real and beloved by readers.
Charred Heart is the first book in her steamy Heart of Fire series. It is an adult romance. Her second book in the series Charred Tears is now available. Chance, the main character in this book, is a dragon shifter who is weary of life. Cursed for breaking a woman's heart, he must live as an immortal shifter. He feels alone and isolated from his shifter friends who were born as magical beings and are capable of being killed in battle. Chance's life is turned upside down when he meets dragon slayer Skyler. They both battle an attraction to their supposed enemy. Chance and Skyler have to learn the truth about themselves and discover who is their friend and foe. Be prepared for a Lizzy Ford cliffhanger that will leave you craving more.
